Author Biographies

Laurie Beth Clark, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Laurie Beth Clark is a Professor in the Art Department of the University of Wisconsin where she currently also directs the Center for Visual Cultures.  Clark is an internationally recognized artist who has produced projects in North and South America, Europe,  Africa, Asia, and Australia.  With Michael Peterson, she is founder of the social practice arts collaborative Spatula&Barcode whose work is dedicated to commensality, conviviality, and criticality.  Extensive documentation of her creative work can be found at https://www.lauriebethclark.art/. As a scholar, Clark has published essays in journals and anthologies on a range of topics in visual culture and performance studies, most extensively on trauma tourism.

Gastón Ares, Universidad de la República

Gastón Ares an Associate Professor at Universidad de la República (Uruguay). Ares leads an interdisciplinary research group specialized in consumer behavior, particularly in consumer reaction towards public policies targeted at achieving healthier and more sustainable eating habits. 

Br Armin Luistro

Br Armin Luistro is a professed member of the De La Salle Christian Brothers and an educator at heart. In the past he has served as the Secretary of the Department of Education in the Philippines and President of De La Salle University.  He was recently appointed Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.  His prompt is what got the hunger conference underway.

Michelle Miller, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Michelle Miller is associate director at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems. Miller is an applied economic anthropologist conducting participatory action research on agriculture, regional food systems and supply chains to address market failures, food access failures and climate change. 

Mpumelelo Ncwadi

Mpumelelo Ncwadi is from South Africa where he works on food sovereignty issues. With graduate degrees from Cambridge University and the University of Cape Town and after years of working on sustainable development projects all across Africa, Ncwadi is now committed to focusing his experience and expertise on his home region.  

Matilda Baraibar Norberg, Stockholm University

Matilda Baraibar Norberg is a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Economic History and International Relations at Stockholm University, Sweden. Baraibar Norberg is also a board member of the (aforementioned) South American Institute for Resilience and Sustainability Studies in Maldonado, Uruguay. Her research area is within a historically informed political economy, with particular focus on agrarian change, food systems, development and sustainability.
