Our issue on "Decolonisation and Performance Studies” (2022) is the winner of the Theatre and Performance Research Association's Edited Collection Award 2024
Our special double issue on "Decolonisation and Performance Studies” (2022) is the winner of the Theatre and Performance Research Association's Edited Collection Award 2024. Twelve edited collections were nominated for this award, and five were shortlisted. The winner was announced during TaPRA’s annual conference, hosted by Northumbria University, 4-6 September 2024.
This statement is from the award's panel:
'A stunning demonstration of coalitional authorship and curation, "Decolonisation and Performance Studies" broadens research agendas in the field around the epistemological exclusions created by capitalist empire. Attentive to the material conditions that both constrain and enable knowledge production in globally uneven ways, this special double issue performs what it champions: privileging modes of academic writing suited to transnational conversation and committing to de-center the English language in Theatre and Performance Studies. At a historical moment marked by the resurgence of genocidal violence in Palestine, "Decolonisation and Performance Studies" is a testament to how the field is grappling with settler colonialism and a stark reminder of all that there is still to do.'
We are grateful to the wonderful contributors, the generosity of the panel, the support of the nominators, and TaPRA’s Awards Officers.
